What We Publish
We Had Faces is a dedicated space to be absorbed in small moments, minute details, and the feeling of actually being somewhere.
We like noticing things. Small stuff. How many coats are on a rack. The clinking sound of the bar being stocked for a wedding. Who was last to leave a film premiere. The smell of flowering lilies in the lobby.
We publish stories and art from people with great affection for the seemingly ordinary. People finding the charm in everyday life, or interstitial moments, or even the details of remarkable ones. We have an accursing curiosity that brings delightful emprise.
With that attentiveness, we hope to raise questions about accepted rules, the way things are supposedly done, and about how we, as individuals, might change them.
You may have found us on Substack, where you can see previews of our published work, lots of half-finished thoughts from the editors, creative prompts, and updates on what we’re up to. If so, we're glad you found your way here, where there's so much more.
Once a year, we publish a complete print collection, because we enjoy the weight of a book and the smell of paper. We also host regular events for our subscribers, so we can see your faces more.
And we welcome submissions! Because you like noticing things too, don't you?
